Number of World War II Veterans in Uzbekistan Announced

As of May 6, 2026, the number of World War II participants and equivalent veterans in Uzbekistan has reached 60, according to the Ministry of Defense.

The largest number of veterans resides in Tashkent city (28 people). This is followed by Tashkent region (11 people) and Fergana region (5 people). In other regions, their numbers are smaller, and in some areas, none remain.

Among the veterans, 14 are war invalids, and 14 are direct participants of the war. Additionally, 13 survived the Siege of Leningrad, while 19 were held in concentration camps.

The list includes veterans living in various regions, as well as those born in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and other countries who are currently residing in Uzbekistan.

According to data, nearly 2 million people from Uzbekistan were sent to the front during the war years, of whom 538,000 were killed.

In honor of May 9, 2026 — the Day of Remembrance and Honor — each war veteran is planned to receive a one-time payment of 30 million soums.
