North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called it a historic event and called for rapid modernization of nuclear weapons.
The North Korean government has officially enshrined the policy of strengthening nuclear forces in the country's constitution at the ninth session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Reuters reported on Thursday, September 28, citing the North Korean state media.
Amendments were made to one of the articles of the Constitution. The Korean Central News Agency (KMAA) called the amendment "a major issue on the agenda."
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called these amendments a "historical event". "The necessary historical and political task aimed at providing the nuclear policy of our country with the supreme law has been perfectly fulfilled," he said.
Kim Jong-un also called for "accelerating the modernization of nuclear weapons to maintain a certain advantage in strategic deterrence." In addition, in his speech, Kim Jong-un called on the DPRK to "continue to strengthen solidarity with the countries that oppose the US and Western hegemonic strategy" and condemned the tripartite cooperation between the US, South Korea and Japan, calling it "NATO's Asia version" he called it.
