Nikol Pashinyan reappointed as Armenia's Prime Minister

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed a decree on August 2 appointing Nikol Pashinyan as the country's Prime Minister. As a result, Pashinyan will once again lead the newly formed government.

Pashinyan's nomination was backed by the parliamentary majority. Earlier, he announced that the government had resigned in accordance with the Constitution following the convening of the newly elected parliament. After the president accepted the government's resignation, the parliamentary majority nominated him once again for the post of Prime Minister.

Under Armenia's Constitution, the government resigns on the day of the first session of the newly elected National Assembly. The president then appoints the candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority as Prime Minister.

Armenia's parliamentary elections were held on June 7, 2026. According to the final results, Pashinyan's Civil Contract party won the election with 49.7% of the vote (726,819 votes). The Strong Armenia bloc secured 23.2% (340,060 votes), while the Armenia bloc received 9.9% (144,983 votes), with both opposition blocs also winning seats in parliament.
