Nicole Kidman says she is training to become a death doula
Actress Nicole Kidman revealed during her speech at the University of San Francisco that she is training to become a death doula — a specialist who provides emotional support to people at the end of life and their loved ones.
The idea came to her after the death of her 84-year-old mother in 2024.
“When my mother was dying, she felt lonely, and as a family we could only do so much. My sister and I both have many children, careers, and work responsibilities, but we wanted to care for her because our father had already passed away. That’s when I thought: ‘It’s such a pity there aren’t more people in the world who can simply be there, offering comfort and care,’” Kidman shared.
Among the actress’s upcoming projects is the series Scarpetta, based on the detective novels by Patricia Cornwell. The premiere took place on Prime Video on March 11.
Kidman plays a forensic expert who uses advanced criminalistic technologies in investigations. While preparing for the role, the actress worked with a real forensic specialist and even learned how to perform autopsies to make her performance more convincing.
