Nicolas Cage shares his thoughts on choosing roles
Oscar winner Nicolas Cage said he enjoys playing both heroes and villains equally. The actor spoke about it in an interview with People during the premiere of the “Spider-Man: Noir” series in New York.
“I think both heroes and villains are equally important for cinema. I don’t want to limit myself to just one type of role,” Cage said.
According to the actor, he once discussed the possibility of playing the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s 2002 “Spider-Man” film. However, Cage decided to choose the project “Adaptation” at that time.
As a result, the Green Goblin role went to Willem Dafoe, while Nicolas Cage received an Oscar nomination for “Adaptation.” Earlier, he had won the Academy Award for his performance in “Leaving Las Vegas” (1995).
Since then, the actor has continued taking on a wide variety of roles. He appeared in the Marvel universe as Ghost Rider and later gained attention for portraying a serial killer in “Longlegs” and a meta version of himself in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.”
Currently, Cage stars as private detective Ben Reilly, who possesses spider-like senses, in the “Spider-Man: Noir” series.
During the interview, the actor also recalled an unusual incident from 2000, when his rare comic book collection was stolen after a Christmas party at his Los Angeles mansion. Although the comics were stored in locked security cases, the thieves managed to bypass the system.
