New York’s first Muslim mayor meets with Trump at the White House

U.S. President Donald Trump and New York’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani met for the first time at the White House. Trump described the meeting positively, saying: “We agreed on more issues than expected,” and during the meeting he even shielded Mamdani from sharp questions posed by journalists.

Earlier, Trump had called Mamdani a fascist, so journalists asked Mamdani about this during the meeting: “Do you confirm that you thought President Trump was a fascist?” Before Mamdani could respond, Trump said, “It’s okay, don’t worry. Just say ‘yes.’ I don’t mind.”

The meeting was held in a warm atmosphere, and both sides expressed readiness to cooperate.

Trump said: “I believe he will be a very good mayor. We will work together to make New York strong and safe.”
