New York City: Zohran Mamdani sworn in as mayor

Zohran Mamdani, the first Muslim mayor in New York City history, took the oath of office on a Quran before taking office. The closed-door swearing-in ceremony took place at the Old City Hall subway station next to City Hall in Manhattan. The official ceremonies will be held at City Hall.

Zohran Mamdani, 34, is a New York City politician of South Asian descent who was born in Uganda. His wife, Duwaji, is Syrian and lives in the United States.
