New York City elects first Muslim mayor

In the recent elections in New York City, 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani won, becoming the first Muslim mayor in the city's history.
According to preliminary results, with 38% of the ballots counted, Mamdani received 49.7% of the vote. Independent candidate - former Governor Andrew Cuomo - received 41.6%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa - 8.1%.
Thus, Zohran Mamdani opened a new page in the political history of New York. In a statement on November 3, Trump threatened to cut funding to New York if Zohran Mamdani became mayor.

Zohran Mamdani was born in Uganda in 1991. He immigrated to the United States with his family as a child and grew up in New York. Since 2021, he has served as a member of the New York State Assembly.
