New Year's corporate events banned in state organizations

According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, ministries, departments, regional and Tashkent city khokimiyats, as well as economic associations with a state share of at least 50 percent, are prohibited from organizing corporate events and festive dinners on the occasion of the New Year at the expense of budget and extra-budgetary funds. The ban is aimed at preventing the use of budget funds. Employees of state organizations can hold New Year events only at the expense of their monthly salaries or incentive funds, outside of work. This restriction does not apply to private companies and non-state commercial organizations.
Similar bans have been introduced in previous years. Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov explained this by saying that “Budget money is the people’s money.”
