It is planned to build interconnected metro and tram networks in the city of New Tashkent. The new city can be reached in 30-35 minutes by two metro lines, from "Great Silk Road" and "Dostlik" stations.
"If we do not start this, people will not live in Tashkent in 5 years," President Shavkat Mirziyoyev commented on the construction of New Tashkent city.

"For the first time in 32 years, we are making an exemplary project that meets world standards. This should remain for 300-400 years, for our grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc., and the next generation should continue it," the head of state noted.

The President said about this on September 5, during the presentation of the master plan of the city of New Tashkent to the head of state.

Davronjon Odilov, Deputy Minister of Construction, Head of the New Tashkent City Development Directorate, said that specialists from South Korea, Germany and Turkey were involved in the field of transport and logistics, and a transport macro model of the current city of Tashkent was created.

"Our two metro lines will connect with the new city. It will be possible to reach the new city in 30-35 minutes from the "Great Silk Road" and "Dostlik" metro stations. This will be a great convenience for residents, there will be no need to come by car," Davronjon Odilov said in an interview on the "Menimcha" TV show.

According to the presented sketch, it is planned to build an interconnected metro and tram network in the city.

It was reported earlier that the metro to New Tashkent will start from the "Dostlik" metro station. Also, plans to extend the "Chilonzor" road from the "Buyuk Ipak Yoli" station to the TTZ district were presented to the president. In the presentation in 2021, it was said that two options for laying the underground line - Mirzo Ulugbek Street or Great Silk Road Street - are being considered.

During Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Paris in November 2022, it was agreed that the French company Alstom will be engaged in the construction of the Tashkent tramway.
