Netflix to produce a series about the life of Frida Kahlo

Netflix has started working on a new series about the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and her husband, the artist Diego Rivera. This was reported by Deadline.

The series will be based on the novel Rien n’est noir by Claire Berest. The book portrays the passionate and complex relationship between Kahlo and Rivera. The project aims to show how love, betrayal, and creativity in their marriage were shaped by the political and social atmosphere of their time.

The screenplay will be written by Maria Rene Prudencio. The series will be directed by Patricia Riggen and Gabriel Ripstein. The official title of the project has not yet been announced.

Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) is considered one of Mexico’s most famous artists. Her works combine realism, symbolism, and folk motifs.

At the age of 18, she survived a serious bus accident that caused multiple injuries, including three fractures of her spine, as well as injuries to her pelvis, ribs, and leg. A metal handrail also pierced her abdomen. After the accident, Kahlo suffered from severe pain for the rest of her life.

In 1929, she married the renowned artist Diego Rivera. Their relationship is remembered as one of the most complex and passionate partnerships in the history of art.
