Necklace Belonging to Former Queen of Egypt, Adorned with 673 Diamonds, Stolen from Vienna Museum

A necklace that belonged to former Egyptian Queen Nazli Sabri and was adorned with 673 diamonds has been stolen from the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria.

The incident occurred on August 27 while the museum was open. Two men entered the museum as visitors, smashed the glass display case containing the necklace with a hammer, and fled with the jewelry. No one was injured in the incident.

The platinum necklace, weighing 200 carats, was made for Queen Nazli in 1939. In 2015, it was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in New York for $4.3 million.

Austrian police have released photographs of the suspects and are searching for them. The exhibition featuring the necklace has been temporarily closed.
