In Kazakhstan, a criminal case initiated against Russian rapper Navai (Navai Bakirov) on suspicion of drug smuggling has been dropped. Following this, the artist was expelled from the country.
According to the Police Department of the Jambyl Region, the decision took into account that this was a first-time offense and that the rapper expressed remorse. The decision was coordinated with the prosecutor's office, and Navai has been banned from entering Kazakhstan for five years.
The rapper was detained on October 13 during a vehicle inspection at the Korday border checkpoint. After drugs were discovered in the car, an investigation was launched into a suspected attempt at smuggling. Subsequently, a court authorized his detention for two months. Navai had been scheduled to perform a concert in Astana on October 14.
