NASA has released a photo of the far side of the Moon taken by astronauts on the Artemis II mission. The image shows both the visible and invisible parts of the Moon. The astronauts became the first people to see the entire face of Orientale Basin, one of the largest craters on the Moon. It is about 965 km wide. The far side of the Moon is not visible from Earth because it rotates on its axis at the same speed as the Earth rotates around it.
Artemis II is the first mission to go beyond Earth's orbit in more than 50 years, and is scheduled to fly around the Moon and then return to Earth.
