The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the situation around the Kyrgyz-Tajik border settlement

Moscow is closely monitoring the existing tension on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry called on both sides to refrain from harsh statements and rash steps that “undermine the positive results recently achieved during negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.”

The diplomatic department noted that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are strategic partners and allies of Russia, therefore Moscow is interested in resolving disagreements and preventing conflicts between CIS member states in order to ensure peace and stability in Central Asia.

Let us recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan protested to the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan in connection with statements by a high-ranking official regarding the border between the two countries.

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev called on the Tajik authorities to remove territorial claims from the agenda.

The Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan: the reason

The ministry added that Russia’s position is that all existing conflicts should be resolved within the framework of a bilateral intergovernmental commission only by political and diplomatic methods.

“Taking into account the agreements reached at the meeting of the heads of Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on October 13, 2022 in Astana, our country is ready to provide any acceptable assistance to our partners. It should be remembered that armed conflicts in the post-Soviet space are beneficial primarily to the collective West, which has its own tendentious goals , which have nothing to do with the real interests of the countries of Central Asia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
