More than one million people evacuated in China as powerful typhoon strikes

A powerful typhoon bringing strong winds and heavy rain has caused major disruption across southern China.

In Hong Kong, strong winds caused construction scaffolding attached to a high-rise building to collapse. The area was temporarily cordoned off, and traffic was restricted as a safety precaution. According to reports, no injuries were recorded.

Meanwhile, in Guangdong Province, wind speeds at the center of the storm reached 162 km/h (101 mph). Videos showing powerful winds blowing away an outdoor ice cream freezer have also gone viral on social media.

Due to the threat posed by the typhoon, authorities have evacuated more than one million people, and railway services in the affected region have been temporarily suspended.
