He flew to Russia from the UAE to visit
At Vnukovo airport, customs officers found contraband of more than 60 diamonds in a passenger's underpants. This is reported by the Federal Customs Service.
The inspectors checked in the "green corridor" a 39-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan, who arrived in Moscow from the United Arab Emirates.
First, 13 boxes of Apple, Samsung and Sony merchandise were found in his luggage, as well as 40 certificates of authenticity for precious stones.
The passenger refused to hand over the jewelry voluntarily, saying that he did not have any. However, during a personal search, 62 large diamonds and bags of small diamonds were found in his shorts.
The man said that he works for one of the major airlines in the UAE, and flew to Moscow to visit relatives. According to the passenger, the cost of his "gifts" for loved ones did not exceed 1.5 million rubles, but the Federal Customs Service valued the diamonds at more than 5 million rubles.
Customs officers have opened a smuggling case and are considering initiating a case on evasion of customs payments. The passenger was sent to a pre-trial detention center.
