34 people died as a result of forest fires in Algeria. "MIR 24" reports that the fire has reached the settlements.
Hundreds of residents are in a hurry to leave their homes. Eight thousand firefighters are involved in the fight against the fire. They are trying to stop the fire with the help of 500 trucks. Mineral lines and pits are being built around the settlements to surround the fire. Also, the fire is extinguished from the air with the help of airplanes.
"The fires have already caused devastating damage. Olive farms and forests are burning. We are trying to help the firefighters. A group of volunteers has been formed. But it's very difficult at this temperature," said local resident Rashid.
In the north and east of Algeria, natural fires flared up due to hot weather. In some regions, the thermometer has risen to 48 degrees Celsius. The situation is further complicated by strong winds.
