More than 100 facilities polluting Tashkent's air have been shut down

Large-scale raids were carried out in Tashkent against facilities that pollute the air. More than 100 greenhouses and construction sites operating in the capital and its environs were temporarily suspended from November 24-28. This was reported by Ikrom Tagayev, First Deputy Head of the State Environmental Supervision Inspectorate.

During the raids:

* 1,449 greenhouses were inspected, 67 of which were suspended.

* Administrative reports were issued to 403 individuals.

* 53 illegal construction sites were identified, 34 of which were temporarily suspended.

* 188 building owners were held accountable.

* Water sprinklers were installed at 51 facilities to reduce construction dust.

Vehicles moving around the capital were also inspected. 837 drivers who drove without covering their cargo and 206 drivers who polluted the atmosphere above the norm were fined.

To improve the city's microclimate: 77 streets and 165 public places were sprayed with water, 322 km of ditches were cleaned, 126 fountains were put into operation. In addition, 54 cases of illegal sand and gravel mining in the rivers of the Tashkent region were identified. The commission also conducted a study on the activities of 7,712 greenhouses in the border area with Kazakhstan and is appealing to the neighboring country to take measures to improve the environment. As a result of the measures taken, the amount of PM2.5 particles in the air of the capital decreased from 171 to 97 micrograms/m³ in a few days.
