Moldova has begun the process of fully withdrawing from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi announced.
The ministry is working on denouncing the three main documents that founded the CIS - the agreements and statutes signed in 1991-1993. If these documents are canceled, Moldova will officially withdraw from the CIS. According to Popsoi, the government-level processes will be completed by mid-February, after which the issue will be considered in parliament. The withdrawal will come into force after the legislative body approves and the president confirms it.

Moldova has signed 283 agreements with the CIS, 71 of which have been canceled, and about 60 are in the process of being canceled. Chisinau has begun a phased suspension of agreements with the CIS since February 2022.
