Yemen's Houthis also congratulated the new leader, calling the decision "a new victory for the Islamic Revolution."

Trump said on Sunday that Iran's next supreme leader "cannot stand for long" unless Tehran first gets his approval. He also called Mojtaba Khamenei an "unacceptable choice."
