Mexican actor Gerardo Taracena has passed away

Mexican actor Gerardo Taracena, known for his roles in the films Apocalypto and The Mexican, has died at the age of 55. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.

The National Association of Actors of Mexico confirmed the sad news, expressing condolences to the actor’s family, friends, and the entire creative community. “His work and his unforgettable face will remain forever in the memory of our national cinema,” the Mexican Academy of Film said in a statement.

Gerardo Taracena was born on March 27, 1970, in Mexico City. He gained international recognition in 2006 after appearing in Mel Gibson’s film Apocalypto, where he portrayed a Native character named Middle Eye. Prior to that, in 2001, he appeared in The Mexican alongside Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.

In 2007, he received the national Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film The Violin. Other notable works include the TV series Narcos and Queen of the South, as well as the films Man on Fire, Lord of the Skies, and Sound of Freedom.

Gerardo Taracena began his career performing at theater and dance festivals before making his film debut in 2001.
