Mass Protests by Farmers

During the European Union summit in Brussels, thousands of farmers staged protests against the EU–Mercosur trade agreement. The European Quarter was blocked by hundreds of tractors, while protesters demanded fair competition and a reduction in bureaucracy. According to Reuters, as unrest intensified, police used tear gas and water cannons.

Farmers oppose discussions by EU leaders on the controversial trade deal with South American countries. They argue that the agreement could allow cheap agricultural products to enter the European market, causing harm to local producers.

Similar farmer protests have also been reported in France, where farmers are protesting against the EU–Mercosur agreement and low-priced imported goods.
