Elon Musk’s Neuralink has announced that its Blindsight device, designed for people who have lost their sight or were born blind, is technically ready.
The device is designed to transmit images captured by a special camera directly to the visual cortex of the brain. The technology aims to bypass damaged eyes and optic nerves, potentially enabling artificial vision.
According to Elon Musk’s statement on October 30, the company is now awaiting regulatory approval to begin human trials of the device.
In 2024, Blindsight received Breakthrough Device designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, its safety and effectiveness in humans have not yet been confirmed.
