Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has imposed sanctions for a period of 10 years against Animaccord, the Russian studio behind the "Masha and the Bear" cartoon, as well as five of its representatives.
Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council believes the animated series spreads pro-Russian views through content aimed at children and poses a threat to the country's national security.
The sanctions establish a legal basis for blocking the animated series within the country and restricting its distribution and monetization on platforms such as Netflix and YouTube.
"Masha and the Bear" is based on a Russian folk tale and is considered one of the most popular animated projects in the world.
