Map in US flag colors and Greenland becoming US territory: Controversial images from Trump

US President Donald Trump posted an image on the official White House Twitter page with the caption "Greenland is a US territory. Established in 2026." The image shows Trump, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump is seen holding the US flag. One of the images he posted also shows Trump showing a map of these territories in US colors to European leaders in a room that looks like an office in the White House. 
These images were posted against the backdrop of Trump's previous statements that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States and his claims to Greenland. Amid the controversy, Trump announced the imposition of customs duties on some European countries that have taken an opposing position on the Greenland issue. He said that a 10 percent duty will be imposed from February 1, and a 25 percent duty will be imposed from June 1.
