After the successful procedure, the man forgot his Turkish and started speaking Danish. He understands Turkish but cannot speak it. Doctors say the phenomenon, known as foreign language syndrome or language recovery, may occur when brain damage affects the language centers differently, and that the man's ability to speak Turkish may gradually recover over time.
