Man dies trying to save girls who fell into the water in Tashkent

On May 5, a tragic incident occurred in the Borijar Canal in the Rakat neighborhood of the Yakkasaroy district of Tashkent. Three girls aged seven to eight were playing on the bank. One of them slipped and fell into the canal. The second girl, who tried to save her friend, also jumped into the water, but the strong current swept her downstream.
Hearing the girls' screams, people rushed to help. One of the local women rescued the first girl with a pole. The second girl, who was floating downstream, was rescued by a 43-year-old man who was nearby. However, he himself drowned due to the strong current. His body was found 4 kilometers below the scene of the incident.
An investigation has been launched into the incident. It was reported that the canal banks in the area where the tragedy occurred were concreted and safety measures were insufficient.
