“Luntik: The Dark Side of the Moon” — Plot and Release Date Announced
Since 2006, the beloved animated series “Luntik and His Friends” has been delighting audiences with over 500 episodes to date. The story of a kind creature born on the Moon who accidentally fell to Earth has become a childhood favorite for many generations.
In 2024, the project reached the big screen with the full-length animated film “Luntik: The Return Home.” In the movie, Luntik’s loyal friends help him fulfill his greatest dream — to travel to the Moon and find his mother.
The film was a huge success, grossing over 507 million rubles and becoming Russia’s most-watched animated movie of 2024. Inspired by this triumph, the creators immediately began working on a sequel — and now, the first details have been revealed.
Plot of “Luntik: The Dark Side of the Moon”
Luntik finally begins living with his mother, but soon a new question troubles him — where is his father?
After learning from his mother that his father disappeared on the dark side of the Moon, Luntik embarks on a new adventure. Alongside his friends — Kozi the grasshopper, Vupsen, and Pupsen — he sets out to explore the mysterious and dangerous part of the Moon that no one has ever seen before.
Release Date
The full-length animated film “Luntik: The Dark Side of the Moon” will premiere on August 27, 2026.
The date was chosen for a reason — exactly 20 years earlier, on the same day, the very first episode of “Luntik and His Friends” aired on television.
