Vehicles with Russian license plates arriving in Lithuania before September 11, 2023 must leave the country and the entire EU territory within six months of their entry. Such a statement was published by the Lithuanian customs.
Since September 11, Lithuanian customs authorities have not allowed vehicles with Russian license plates to enter the country based on restrictions related to the implementation of EU sanctions against Russia. As the European Commission explained earlier, these restrictions apply to the import of cars registered in Russia even for temporary use.
Exception for transit to Kaliningrad
"The ban applies to these vehicles, regardless of the nationality of their owner or driver," the Lithuanian customs website said.
According to the information in it, this rule is excluded for cars registered in Russia and used by Russian citizens to cross the territory of Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region. They must present an FTD transit document.
Lithuanian customs also issued a warning against the purchase or import of vehicles "registered in Russia or manufactured in Russia." Violation of the law may result in a fine and/or confiscation of the vehicle.
