Life imprisonment expected for pedophilia

Uzbekistan is expected to introduce new tough measures to combat violence against women and children. According to the “Uzbekistan — 2030” strategy and the draft State Program for 2026, it is planned to establish a penalty of up to life imprisonment for sexual crimes committed against persons under the age of 14.
Also, the investigation of crimes related to sexual and violent crimes against minors will be transferred to the exclusive jurisdiction of the prosecutor's office. Specially trained investigators and judges will be established to consider such cases.
In addition, it is planned to introduce administrative liability for the engagement of persons under the age of marriage, as well as for parents who instigate such situations and those who promote illegal marriages. These measures are aimed at creating an atmosphere of intolerance for violence in society and preventing early marriages, and the new norms are scheduled to come into force on April 1, 2026.
