A scuffle and fistfight broke out in the Armenian parliament between MPs from the ruling "Civil Contract" party and the opposition "Strong Armenia" party.
The conflict initially began after the MPs exchanged insults. Subsequently, "Civil Contract" MP Vahe Galumyan got into an argument with opposition representative Vaghinak Vartanov and pushed him, leading to a physical altercation. Parliamentary security personnel intervened to separate the MPs. Tensions flared up again later following a harsh statement by MP Taron Chakhoyan regarding Karekin II, the Catholicos of All Armenians; the MPs shouted at and insulted one another, resulting in another commotion.
Parliamentary Vice-Speaker Ruben Rubinyan twice halted the session and announced a recess.
