Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack across Ukraine overnight to mark Vladimir Putin's 74th birthday.
The attacks targeted Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kremenchuk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, and other regions. Reports indicate that more than ten missiles struck the Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Plant, while the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant near Kyiv and several major electrical substations were also hit.
Major fires broke out in several districts of Kyiv. Power outages were reported in the Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions. In Zaporizhzhia, strikes on bridges led to traffic restrictions.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the attacks targeted military-industrial facilities in Ukraine, as well as sites used for the production and storage of cruise missiles and long-range drones. Port and ship-repair infrastructure in the Odesa region was also reportedly targeted. At least 11 people were killed and more than 40 injured as a result of the attacks.
