Large-scale drug smuggling attempt prevented in Fergana Region

According to the State Security Service, during a special operation conducted in the “Dehqonobod” neighborhood of Rishton district, a Volvo cargo truck arriving from a neighboring country was inspected. As a result, narcotic substances hidden inside the vehicle’s wheels were discovered.

During оперативe actions, the driver born in 1974 and a suspect believed to be the organizer of the operation, born in 2000 and living in Uchko‘prik district, were detained. The inspection revealed a total of 3 kg 408 g of opium and 16 kg 405 g of hashish hidden inside the wheels.

It was also established that the suspect’s father, born in 1980, was involved in the crime, and he was detained as well.

Currently, a criminal case has been initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and pre-trial detention has been applied to the suspects.

It should be noted that similar incidents had previously been recorded in the region, where attempts to transport large quantities of narcotic substances were exposed.
