Kyrgyzstan recommends officials not wear suits and ties in summer

The Kyrgyz government has introduced a new order for civil servants to save electricity. Now, officials are advised to abandon suits and ties and work in light shirts during the summer.

Prime Minister Odilbek Kasimaliyev said that this measure will help reduce the use of air conditioners in offices and reduce electricity consumption. He noted that suits are causing rooms to be excessively cooled. The government cited Japan's Cool Biz experience as an example. Within the framework of this program, significant savings were made by working in light clothes in the summer and maintaining the air conditioner temperature at a high level.

According to official data, electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan has increased by more than 25 percent over the past five years.
