The head of the board of the National Energy Holding of Kyrgyzstan, Talaibek Baigaziev, said that the republic is ready to increase the import of electricity from Turkmenistan and Russia in case of an increase in consumption, the CIS Energy Council reports.
“This year we plan to cover the deficit of 2.5 billion kWh of electricity through imports. The remaining 14.5 billion will be covered by our own production at the expense of hydroelectric power stations and thermal power plants. For the first time, we will supply electricity from Turkmenistan and Russia. If there is an increase in consumption, then we will agree on an increase in imports,” Baigaziev said.
It was noted that last year the republic could not fully cover its electricity needs. This year it is planned to import from Russia and Kazakhstan. Turkmenistan remains the leader in the supply of electricity to Kyrgyzstan.
According to the agreements reached, Kyrgyzstan imports about 1.6 billion kWh of Turkmen electricity, which is about 65% of all imports.
