Kyrgyzstan elected to UN Security Council for the first time

For the first time in its history, Kyrgyzstan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The country will serve on the Council for the period 2027-2028.
In the vote at the UN General Assembly, Kyrgyzstan won 142 votes, beating the Philippines in the Asia-Pacific Group quota. Thus, Kyrgyzstan became the second Central Asian country to be elected to the UN Security Council after Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan previously served on this body in 2017-2018.
Kyrgyzstan will begin its work on the Council on January 1, 2027 and plans to promote international peace, negotiated settlement of conflicts, and environmental security.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Japarov on this success.
