Knife Attack in Taiwan: 3 Killed, 5 Injured

On December 19, a man armed with a knife attacked people in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. According to the BBC, at least three people were killed and five others were injured in the incident.

Taiwan’s Prime Minister stated that the 27-year-old suspect detonated smoke bombs at a central metro station during the evening rush hour, then ran toward a crowded shopping area, attacking people with a knife along the way. The suspect later died after jumping from a building.

Following the incident, security measures were tightened. Taiwan’s President announced that a prompt investigation would be conducted. It was noted that such violent attacks are rare in Taiwan, with the last major incident occurring in 2014.
