Kazakhstan to impose chemical castration on pedophiles before release

According to an order issued by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Health on October 1, 2025, individuals convicted of sexual crimes against minors will undergo chemical castration six months before the end of their prison sentence.

The procedure will be carried out only by court order, either in a correctional facility or in a medical institution.

Twelve months before the end of the sentence, a forensic psychiatric examination will be conducted to assess the offender’s mental state and tendency toward sexual violence. The measure will not apply to individuals found to have mental disorders but deemed legally sane.

The new regulation will take effect on October 17, 2025.
