Japanese surgeons shield patient during earthquake

During a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, surgeons protected a patient by shielding them with their own bodies.

The incident occurred on July 28 at a hospital in Yatsushiro City, where surgery was underway when the earthquake struck. The powerful shaking caused medical equipment in the operating room to move.

Security camera footage shows the surgical team staying with the patient, covering them with their bodies while holding the equipment in place to ensure the patient's safety. Despite the earthquake, the lead surgeon continued the operation.

According to the hospital, four surgeries were being performed at the time of the earthquake, and all were completed successfully. Neither the patients nor the medical staff were injured.
