Japan plans to build a massive solar power station on the Moon
Japanese engineers have announced an ambitious project called the “Lunar Ring” on the Daily Galaxy science portal. The project aims to surround the Moon with solar panels stretching 11 kilometers in length, generating energy for people on Earth around the clock.
According to reports, the construction of the solar power station will be carried out by robots, which will be controlled remotely from Earth. To transmit energy back to Earth, technologies such as microwaves and lasers will be used. Special antennas located on the visible side of the Moon will direct the energy beams to receiving stations on our planet.
According to calculations by Shimizu, the solar panels, operating at full capacity, could generate up to 13,000 terawatts of energy—several times more than the current global energy demand.
Scientists expect preparations for the construction of this project to begin in 2035.
