It was revealed why loans are mainly taken out in Uzbekistan
According to the Central Bank, as of May 1, 2026, the population of Uzbekistan owed a total of 230.77 trillion soums to banks. This figure increased by 10.5 trillion soums in one year.
The largest share of loans was taken out for mortgages - that is, for the purchase of housing, their volume amounted to 83.9 trillion soums.
Also, microloans amounted to 50.1 trillion soums, microcredits amounted to 44.3 trillion soums, and car loans amounted to 39.6 trillion soums. Loans for education amounted to 6.9 trillion soums, and consumer loans amounted to 515 billion soums.
By region, the largest number of loans fell on the city of Tashkent - 68.75 trillion soums. The next places are occupied by Samarkand (17.1 trillion soums), Fergana (16.5 trillion soums) and Kashkadarya (15 trillion soums) regions. The least amount of loans is in Syrdarya (5.3 trillion) region. Among banks, the organizations that issued the most loans were Ipotekabank and Uzmilliybank.
