The number of permanent residents of Uzbekistan is 36 million 372 thousand people (as of July 1). This is reported by the Statistical Agency.
It is reported that the Samarkand region (4 million 159 thousand people) is the most densely populated region of the country. The following places are Ferghana (4 million 15 thousand people), Kashkadarya (3 million 515 thousand people), Andijan (3 million 354 thousand people) and Namangan (3 million 28 thousand people) regions.
The region with the smallest number of Uzbeks is the Syrdarya region, where 905,000 people live. The next places were occupied by Navoi (1 million 65 thousand people), Jizzakh (1 million 491 thousand people), Khorezm (1 million 971 thousand people) and Karakalpakstan (1 million 987 thousand people).
The most densely populated region of the country is the city of Tashkent, with 7,000 people per 1 km2. The regions with the lowest population density are Navoi region (9.6 people per 1 km2) and Karakalpakstan (11.9 people per 1 km2).
According to the agency, the number of permanent residents of Uzbekistan is increasing by an average of 2,000 people a day. Compared to the same period last year, the population of the republic increased by 2.2%. The number of Uzbeks increased by an average of 57.9 thousand people in each month of 2023.
The number of women in the republic (as of July 1) is 18 million 66 thousand, and men - 18 million 306 thousand. 18 million 557 thousand people live in cities, 17 million 816 thousand people live in villages.
