It was reported that the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is expected to start in 2023. However, it is said that the construction has been postponed.

"The project is ready, but Beijing, Bishkek and Tashkent still cannot agree on financing. This may take a long time. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan do not have the funds to finance the project. China could build everything by itself, but the railway is not an important route. It was not intended to be used for export to Europe, because there are trains running on the Trans-Siberian railway and the Dostik (Kazakhstan)-Orenburg-Brest route," he said.
According to Grigory Mikhaylov, an expert on Central Asian issues, China and Uzbekistan can pay their share, but Kyrgyzstan cannot. China can give. In Kyrgyzstan, there is a loan under the state guarantee, but President Sadir Japarov has forbidden to increase the state debt. The option of paying with natural resources is also not suitable for Kyrgyzstan.
Its direction was previously agreed by the representatives of the three countries within the framework of the SCO summit held in Samarkand in September 2022. On April 29 of this year, it was announced that the technical and economic basis of the railway project was ready. On May 19, a tripartite document on the construction of the railway was signed.
