Iranian singer sentenced to 74 lashes for singing without hijab
Iranian singer Parastu Ahmadi and 8 members of her team have been sentenced to 74 lashes each for singing the song “Az Khoone Javanane Vatan” without a hijab on a live broadcast in December 2024.
A court in the city of Qom found them guilty of creating and distributing “indecent and immoral content.” As a punishment, they were given 74 lashes and banned from leaving Iran and engaging in creative activities for 2 years.
Human rights activists criticized the decision, saying that Iranian law does not criminalize a woman’s singing and that the case was misinterpreted.
