According to the committee's statement, participation in women's competitions will be limited to biological women. The right to participate will be determined by a special test for the SRY gene. The decision was made ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and is aimed at ensuring equality in women's sports. Previously, the final decision on this matter was at the discretion of sports federations.
In the United States, transgender athletes have been banned from participating in women's competitions since February 2025. This was one of the first decrees of Donald Trump, who promised to achieve a ban at the IOC level.
