Indonesia removes TikTok and YouTube accounts of under-16s

Indonesia has removed more than 4.7 million TikTok and YouTube accounts of users under the age of 16, the country's Minister of Communications and Digital Technology Meutya Hafid said. According to official figures, TikTok removed 4.1 million accounts, while YouTube removed nearly 600,000. The measures are part of a new policy adopted in March 2026 that gradually removes accounts of users under the age of 16 on social platforms that are considered "high risk."

These requirements also apply to Facebook, Instagram, X and Roblox. Minister Meutya Hafid said the government's goal is not only to limit children's use of social networks, but also to change the platforms' policies to ensure the safety of young users.
