India has issued a warning on amoeba that " eats the brain

In Kerala, India, cases and deaths due to water-borne “brain-eating” Naegleria fowleri amoeba have doubled compared to 2024. In 2025, 72 people contracted the disease and 19 died. In September alone, nine deaths and 24 cases were reported.
Health officials set up a staff to diagnose and treat the disease and began extensive investigations. Amoeba lives in warm lakes and rivers, is infected when dirty water gets into the nose, but is not transmitted from person to person. Once the infection reaches the brain, it is fatal in 95 percent of cases.

Doctors claim that this infection is very rare, but almost always fatal.
