India begins first-ever digital census
India will begin its first-ever digital census from April 1. The process was originally scheduled for 2021, but was delayed due to the pandemic. Citizens will first register online, followed by a two-stage door-to-door survey involving more than 3 million staff. The census is expected to be completed in March 2027 and the results will be announced soon. According to the UN Population Fund, India surpassed China in population (over 1.4 billion) in 2023.
