According to the government's decision, starting from November 1, 2023, the prices will be several times higher for those who use electricity in excess of the average monthly consumption.
According to the decision, in order to rationally use the consumed electricity, consumers of the III group whose electricity capacity exceeds the average monthly consumption:
2 times (590 soums) compared to the established tariff for consumption from 1,001 to 5,000 kWh;
3 times (885 soums) compared to the established tariff for consumption from 5,001 to 10,000 kWh;
For consumption above 10,000 kWh, a 4-fold increase (1180 soums) is applied to the established tariff.
Economist Otabek Bakirov writes that setting prices based on consumption is a revolutionary step.
"And finally, it seems that the right steps have begun. Finally, the government has started moving away from the favored rich and towards the social class regarding electricity tariffs. This can be called a fair truth. A revolutionary just truth," he wrote.
Earlier, it was reported that gradual liberalization of gas and electricity prices has begun in Uzbekistan. In particular, from October 1 of this year, the price of electricity for the 1st and 2nd groups of consumers will be up to 1,000 soums per 1 kW/h (NKMK, OTMK, Metallurgical Plant of Uzbekistan, budget organizations), for the rest of businesses and legal entities - kw/h increased to 900 soums per hour.
The last time gas and electricity tariffs in the country changed in August 2019. Currently, the price increase will affect legal entities, entrepreneurs and large enterprises in the first stage. Tariffs for residents remain unchanged.
In last year's discussions, it was envisaged to set and increase the prices of electricity and natural gas based on social norms. That is, it is proposed to change the prices for the consumption of electricity and energy resources based on the new system. In particular, it was said that the consumption of 1 kWh of electricity for residents will be set at 325 soums per month up to 250 kWh, and 650 soums per 1 kWh above 250 kWh. But due to some reasons, the implementation of this plan has been delayed.
